Walter John Martin
Walter John Martin of Oregon City was called to Heaven on September 11, 2021 at the age of 71. He passed away peacefully in his sleep after battling pancreatic cancer for five months.
Walt was born on April 13, 1950 to Charles and Leona Martin in Valparaiso, Indiana. After finishing high school, he joined the Navy, collected stories, and gained experience with electricity. This eventually led him to follow his father and brothers into becoming an electrician. After bumping around all the corners of the United States, he found himself in the northwest--Spokane, where he met his wife of 34 years, Lorraine Martin. She had two teenage sons, Kyle and Curtis, who he took under his wing and imparted admirable qualities. Eventually, work brought him to Oregon City where he had built a life of helping others and serving the Lord for the last twenty years.
While Walter was always someone to rely on for electrical help, this ability did not define him. He had passions for traveling and meeting others, pottery and art, old computers and older trains, fixing and taking things apart. He always had a project--even last April he was helping pour a cement slab at his stepson’s house. He approached his projects as a means to educate or help others out and make their lives a little easier. This generosity and selflessness were physical manifestations of Walt’s deep faith in Christ. And if he got a story from these adventures, so much the better.
Walter is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He is survived by his wife Lorraine, sisters Leona and Donna, stepsons Kyle and Curtis and their wives Jeanne Marie and Micheline, grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, as well as a fox terrier Sierra.
A celebration of life will be held at Holman, Hankins, Bowker &Waud Funeral Home, Oregon City on Wednesday, September 22nd at 1:00 and a 2:30 cemetery ceremony.
